“Hang in there”
I came across this posting around the block from my apartment, and wanted to contribute to the community art project!
An Ode to the String Light
I wanted to capture the similarities between 9/11 and Covid, with New York at the epicenter. As summer winds down, I can't help but reflect on how the pandemic changed so many parts of this season in the city. However, I felt that one good thing that came out of the shutdown was the proliferation of outdoor dining. Now, whole streets are blocked off from vehicles, and restaurants and bars take over entire stretches of sidewalk. At night, the streets will glow with building upon building dressed up in shining string lights. That image felt especially powerful to me, and gave me hope that things will one day return to normal.

Find your fire
A big part of hanging in there is finding your fire and what you want to fight for. That can mean so many things in a year like 2020, and for me a big part of hanging in there is have work that I’m finally excited about, which helps keep me sane during these times.
